Today's Prompt: How do you feel about the name given to you at birth?

I can remember a time in elementary school when I aware that my name was given to me and I wasn't sure I liked it. I believe my mum heard the name on the radio and liked it so that's where it came from.

I like my name now. Perhaps it's because I am 39 and just so used to it. The only thing I don't like about my name is how everyone misspells it. I like the way my mum spelled it, but everyone insists on putting an 'e' in it.

Do you like you name?

(Today's question is actually Friday's - I didn't really know much about today's: Tell us everything you know about the day you were born. Perhaps my mum can fill me in on that one later and I can tell you more.)

No I do not. My given name is Yvonne...and only my mother called me it when she was mad. I was named after a friend of my dad's. Or as mom liked to tell it, an old girlfriend of his. Kinda disturbing isn't it?

My mom and dad picked the name "Megan Elizabeth" for me before I was born. However, when dad saw me, he thought I looked more like a "Jennifer Kay." Mom disagreed, but dad won. :)

I think I am okay with my name, but get tired of the nicknames and references to rocks, glass, and flavored water (being called Crystal Light gets old after about the fifth time). I don't know what else I would want to be named though. I like your name, by the way. :)

I was named after my great-grandfather. Sort of. His name was Christian Wilhelm. Mom didn't like Christian so they shortened it to Chris. I always wanted that name & am contantly telling people on forms or applications that I'm "just Chris". Wilhelm became William. My dad was a middle William. I am. And my son is. Also, every pet I've ever had has had the name William as their middle name. :)

Funny story about names w/ my mom. Her name was Eva Winifred & she hated it. She went by Winnie. When I started jr high & got my first locker I had to fill out a form w/ my parent's full names. Because I lived in a very small town, everyone knew everyone. So one day when the school secretary (who saw my card) ran into my mom at the grocery store she said, "Winnie, I didn't know your first name was Eva?" That afternoon when I got home from school I was told - in no uncertain terms - to NEVER use her full name again.

Thanks for letting me post on your blog. :)
