Friday Finds

I have run across some unique blogs lately and thought I would share a few with all of you.

1. Donna Reed in Blue Jeans aka Monkey Toed Momma. I came across her while reading White Hot Magik. She's a stay-at-home-mom from Texas telling tall tales about the fun of raising 4 girls.

2. Can't get enough CUTE in your day? Stop by Cute Overload! :) and see what is adorable today.

3. Cake Wrecks is another crack up! Anyone else out there just love to watch Ace of Cakes? If you do, you'll love this site. I bet Duff checks out this site himself.

Have a Great Day!

Nothing Much

Kind of quiet around here. Not much going on that I can talk about right now. Just some teenage rebellion stuff. Nothing I can't handle, just worrisome.

Anyhow, here is a pic of the 3 boyz last night hanging out together. I rarely see the three of them together, not fighting, enjoying each others company. So I thought I would share a rare quiet brotherly love-type photo with you.

Notice Little S is sleeping. Not sure what game Teen is playing but Tween is really into it.

Then today I was making some cheese wonton that I bought from the schwans man. These are the instructions:
#4 Cracks Me Up! Do you really think they will be hot? DUH!

Weekend Away

We had a nice time while we were camping. I have some photos to share.

Laurel and her boyz came up for the day on Friday and we went to a few places.

We started the day at Deer Park.

As soon as you walk in there are several pens of deer on your left. This is Seth feeding a deer. They are very tame and have all been handfed for years.

Behind Seth in the Boston Shirt is Laurels son A, beside him is her older son J and she is in the pink shirt on the far right.

In the back of the park is an old time village. Here is what the boyz got into back there.

This is Seth, A and Josh (Tween). Her oldest wouldn't get in the jail. I think he was afraid we would lock him in and leave him there. LOL

Seth, A and Josh again. Although school hasn't started here, they sat for a lesson. Her oldest didn't want anything to do with school either. LOL

Seth got a kick out of feeding the camels. They really had to duck down to get food from him.

He thought it would be fun to feed the lion. LOL

This picture isn't real clear. I had to stick my hand through the wires to get this one. Do you see the bear on the left? He was sitting up on his hind legs and catching the treats in his mouth. He was such a hoot.

This is a "Zonkey". A cross between a zebra and a donkey. We weren't allowed to hand feed him.

This was in the petting zoo part. This is the favorite part for the kids. You get to interact with them. At certain times during the day you can buy bottles to feed the baby goats. Notice Josh's mohawk. That is a story for another day.

Hubby's uncle raises goats so Seth has alwatys been around them. His aunt calls us every time there is a new baby so Seth can come and hold it and play with it.

We ended the adventure at Deer Park with this picture. Again her oldest wouldn't participate. Guess that is what happens at 14. My oldest didn't even go to the park.

After we left there, we went to the Linesville Spillway. Also known as the place "Where the Ducks Walk on the Fish". Believe it, I have seen it.

This is what they look like as they are being fed.

This is a family tradition in our family. My parents and grandparents took me here when I was a kid and now we take our kids here.

This is a 70+ year old tradition in the area. Feeding bread to the fish is fun. But even more fun is when you see one fall down the spillway. Or when one jumps up and back out.

After this we went to the Wildlife Education Center and then back to camp.

We had "Garbage Fries" and hotdogs over the fire for dinner. Then finished it off with Smores before Laurel and the boyz headed home.

Stacy

PS - "Garbage Fries" = One Pound of Fresh Cut Fries Smothered with Cheese, Chili, Real Bacon, Black Olives, Banana Peppers and Topped Off with Sour Cream. YUMMY!!!

Spur Of The Moment

Hubby called a few minutes ago and decided we are going away for the weekend. We have to be home Sunday as he is singing in church. So he is taking off a half day today and tomorrow.

We are going to stay at his mom's camp until Saturday.

So we will be leaving in an hour to open up camp, come back home as the kids have activities tonight and then head back up this evening.

For those of you who can text me, try it out. I get sporadic signals up there so I may take a few to reply, but I will when I can.

Have a nice weekend!

Too Funny!

**Yesterday Teen stayed at a friends house so Tween had a friend stay here.

We had to run into W*Mart to get shin guards for soccer practice. As Little S and I were leaving, I hollered back to Tween and his friend that they could go P-O-O-L for a little while.

Little S says to me - "Are you talking about the pool?"

Me - "How do you know what I am talking about?"

Little S - "I am a four year old, I can know these things!"

**Last Sunday while we were at my mum's, we went to her church on Sunday morning. Her Pastor was out of town last week so there was a woman speaker instead. She talked about the undergroud church in China and how they were being prosecuted. And also how the Christians during the Olympics had to be careful and that 2 tourists and a guide had been killed the day before. Prior to this the Pastor had bought special bracelets that the congregation could have for free if they promised to pray for China. They were gray and said Pray for China on them. One side in English and the other in Chinese.

As we are leaving the church Seth mentions that he wants to take a bracelet. So my mum ask him if he was going to pray for China. He said no and she said that he could not have one. So he looks at her and says:
"Fine then, I'll pray for China!"
And we have been adding it to our prayers at night.

What a Hoot!

Simple Request

So I know that it is only the middle of August, but I am starting to work on the Christmas Program for Church.

I am looking for some different songs than the usual carols in the hymnals. Some examples are:
Joseph's Lullaby by Mercy Me
While You Were Sleeping by Casting Crowns

So do any of you know of other songs that may pique my interest?

Thanks,
Stacy

We Had A Bacon Good Time!

Friday night we had the end of summer swim and slumber party for the Jr Youth Group.

Our theme for the evening was "Bacon"! Silly right? I have 6 boys and 3 girls in my group. The boys are obsessed with Bacon. They talk about it every week, hence the theme of our party.

I made a watermelon basket and filled it with watermelon, cantalope, and honeydew balls. Around the bottom of the basket on the tray I have grapes, pineapple and cherries. I also got a bunch of veggies cut up and had veggie trays.

Where's the bacon?

We were bakin' in the sun at the pool. The boys stood at the end of the pool and formed the word bacon with their bodies and then jumped into the water at the same time.

We had bacon pizza.
We played bacon bingo. I had a list of words for them to place on their cards and they had to yell bacon when they won. A lot of the prizes were bacon related.
We played pin the bacon in the man's mouth.
We watched "My Dog Skip" starring non-other than Kevin Bacon.
We had bacon chips and bacon dip.
They finally settled down and went to sleep around 2 am. And they were back up at 7 am. We served Bacon, Egg & Cheese for breakfast.
Then they jumped back in the pool until noon.

It was a blast. I loved the theme adn can't wait to do it again next year.

Just for Fun

Laurel recently introduced me to David M Bailey. He is coming to our area next month and we are going to his concert. If you have a chance stop by his site and check out his story.

His parents were missionaries when he was a child. He was found to have a malignant brain tumor and was given just a few short months to live. He left corporate america and went back to making music. Most of his music glorifies God. This is one of his fun songs.

By the way, he was diagnosed over ELEVEN years ago. This is the difference between what the doctors know and what God knows.

Have a great weekend!

Not Funny At The Time But......

I have a fear of Parking Garages. Not that they are going to fall in (well maybe a little), but that as we are driving through, the roof of the vehicle is going to hit the roof.

Most of you know that every 3 weeks, when I can, I ride with Laurel down to Pittsburgh for her treatments for her breast cancer. And every time we go down, we have to park in the parking garage. The nice thing is the hospital is attached to the garage and we can usually park right by the entrance as there is reserved parking for the cancer center patients.

Usually we take Laurels car but on occasion we have taken her husbands huge Dodge Ram pickup. As we enter the garage, in either vehicle, I hunker down (as if that is going to help) and pray that we don't hit. We never have, just one of those silly fears that some people have.

So Wednesday morning I arrive at her house ready to go. I knew that her husband had her car as he was out of town on business and her car is better on gas. Not a big deal usually, although the truck does make me more nervous than the car as it is MUCH taller.

As we are going out to get in the truck I notice that the truck has a wooden rack in the bed. It is used to carry equipment and such. I ask Laurel if she thinks we will still fit in the garage. Oh sure, it only makes the truck about six inches taller. We will have plenty of room!

Famous last words! You all know where this is going.

Yes, we got down to Pittsburgh, pull into the garage and I notice the one corner of the rack shaking after we enter. So I ask again if we are going to clear. Yes, we are fine!

I am hunkered down nervously looking in the mirror watching what is about to happen.

We go a little further and hear SCRAPE and a small bang as the rack releases from the roof and adjusts back in the bed.

We Just Hit The Roof! And there is a LINE of cars behind us!

So now what? We can't go any further as there are drainage pipes hanging down and we will surely catch them.

Laurel is so calm she pulls to the side and backs up as far to the left as she can so traffic can get around. Then I see the parking garage policewoman coming after us.

I can't get out of the car as the traffic is just squeezing by on the right. As soon as I can, I get out to try to help her.

At this point the lady attendant is trying to figure out what to do and there is Laurel in the back of the truck TEARING the rack apart. With her bare hands.

I think she was a little, ok make that a lot, peeved and embarrassed and upset that we were now going to be late for her appointment.

She got it situated enough to get us to the level we needed and would worry about it later.

Now if that wasn't funny enough, as we are sitting in the waiting room her husband calls. He asked how things were going. She calmly states "Oh, everything was well until about 5 minutes ago when we got stuck in the parking garage with that rack you left in the truck." Dead Silence on the other end of the phone. Then "Hmmm, Guess I should have taken that out."

You Think?!?!?!

It is always an adventure when Laurel and I are together. We laugh constantly and just have a great time. I am going to miss our trips once I go back to work and am so glad I got to spend so much time with her this summer.

Prayers & Praying

I have found some wonderful prayer warriors here in cyberland and I thank each one of you for all that you do. Whether it is a simple prayer uttered after you have read my blog, or consistently praying for me every day, or anything in between I love each of you for it.

Most of you know that I have been off work for the summer. My plan all along was to ride out the summer with the boyz and if I wasn't called back when school starts to start looking for something.

A few weeks ago I sent out a few resumes and checked out Mon*ster dot com. I applied for a few things, but nothing came of anything I sent out. The past week I mentioned to a few of you that I was starting to look and that things were getting rather tight around here. I asked that you pray for God's guidance and direction for my next step.

God is truly an Amazing God.

I have thought all along that I wanted to do something different. That perhaps I would rather work with people. Get away from pushing paper all day.

I applied for many positions that did not have anything to do with office work. When I did get calls on them the position was either for afternoons (which I can not work) or the pay was too little for our needs.

In the last 2 days I have received several phone calls about office jobs that sound promising. All of these calls came from posting my resume on Career*Builder dot com. I believe that God is steering me back into an office. If that is where He wants me, who am I to question Him?

So as I interview the next few days, please pray that I see where God wants me and that I make the right decision.

I also have one more prayer request if you don't mind. Our second car broke down not too long ago. We have a friend from church that is a mechanic and is going to fix it for us at his home garage. The problem is it is going to cost us a lot more than we have right now. I just pray that God will show us a way to be able to fix the second car. Without the second car it is hard for both of us to work and still manage the kids and household.

Thank you,
Stacy

An Answer & A Poem

The answer to yesterday's Park name:
It is pronounced Ka-Kape-On
What were you thinking?

And now a poem I have read many times, but needed to hear today. I thought I would share it with all of you.

When I Say I Am A Christian - by Maya Angelou

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'.
"I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

What a wonderful reminder of my Faith and God's Grace!

What a Weekend!

I have driven over 500 miles in the past three days. I am exhausted!

Friday started out kind of slow, but then I got the cleaning bug. I don't get it very often so when I do I tend to listen.

I went out to the kitchen and I scrubbed. And Scrubbed. And Scrubbed! I did from the top to the bottom. Cabinets, top of fridge (gross how much dust collects up there), counters, appliances and floor. My wrists were killing me when I got done. I have the start of carpal tunnel and scrubbing the floors pushed them a little too far.

Friday afternoon, I picked up Teen from Band Camp. He had a wonderful time, thanks for all of your prayers. We then packed up the car and headed to my mum's for the night. We got there fairly early, had dinner, played some cards and watched a little TV before bed.

Saturday morning, we left a little before 9 and drove over the Mason Dixon line to West Virginia to visit my sister and her family. We had a really nice visit. The kids played while the adults talked. We went down to the little restaurant in her town and ate lunch and went back for some more chit-chat and a movie. Then we headed back to my mum's for the night. We got in about 9 and then still had to eat dinner. After we ate, we went right to sleep.

Sunday we got up and went to church. After church my step-dad took me to Best*Buy and bought us a new computer. Mine was dying a slow painful death and he got tired of me not being able to use it. It lasted me 5 years and would have lasted much longer but the mother board was starting to go. I lost use of all of my USB ports and then other things were starting to not work also. The one he bought us will last a LONG time. It is top of the line.

We got back home here around 7 last evening. Hubby had dinner ready and we ate and crashed.

Today Teen and I rearranged the living room in order to set up the new computer. It is now up and running. I am missing a lot of files and links and such from the old computer. It is really hard to transfer everything when I can't use any type of thumb drive to copy from the old to the new. So if I haven't stopped by in a while, please drop me and email so I can catch up with you.

Here are some pics from the trip. I can now use my digital camera and download the pics on my computer. Before we had to download them on Teen's computer, save them to a CD and then transfer them to mine. What a pain!

We had to drive from PA, to WV, to VA, to MD, to VA, to WV to get to her house. Sound confusing? It is!

This is the mascot in front of the restaurant where we ate:

This next picture is hard to see, but try to notice how close the tree is to the side of the road:

This is the road up to her house. Notice how narrow the road are. They are also VERY windy. I learned what a hairpin curve was this weekend. I was driving and scared to death another car was going to come back down the mountain towards me. Where would I go? They actually have pull offs every so often up the mountain in case you have to pull over. There is no "side of the road" on her road.

We saw many of these along the drive: (Can you see her?)

This made me laugh! In fact, after I saw this I decided I had better take some pic's as no one would believe me. This is true "Hillbilly Country" where she lives.

This was an actual house at one time. Can you imagine?

These are two beautifuil pictures just down the road from her place. I know how much we make fun of WV, but it really is a beautiful state.

And I saved this for last. The other day Shannon challenged us all with the word "Route" and how it is pronounced. This is the State Park not too far from my sisters house. How do you suppose they say the name of this park?

I'll tell you how it is pronounced tomorrow. And can anyone tell me what Lake Swimming Horses look like?

Grab the Tissues

I ran across this video today.

The reason that I decided to watch it was because Nicole C Mullins wrote this song and sang it at the Women of Faith Concert I just come home from.

After seeing the video and blubbering my way through it, I looked up Team Hoyt. What an amazing story. If you have a minute please click on the link above and read the "Who We Are" tab.

As I was watching this video I was thinking how what this father is doing for his son is exactly what God does for us. God pushes us when we need pushing, pulls us when we need pulling, carries us when we need carrying and rides behind us when He needs to. He never leaves us, we just have to let Him guide us along the path.

What an amazing lesson I have learned today.

Trends & A Cool New Link

Trends come and go. I really don't pay as much attention to them as I did at one point in life. Guess that is called growing up or is it growing old?

Anyhow there is one trend that is really disturbing to me.

This:

And This:

And most of all This:

Why skull and crossbones? Why on children?
Teens new girlfriend came skating with us the other day and she was wearing a pink jacket with skull and crossbones all over it. It made me think less of her. Which is so wrong I know, but I can't help it. I think of all the things in life, your image is one thing you can control. Especially when you are a teen.
OK - Enough of this rant. I found a really neat new blog for all of you to take a peek at. You wouldn't believe it if I told you about it so go here and check it out.
Have a Great Day!

What's with the Name?

I have been thinking about this for a while now and still can't figure out an answer. Perhaps you can help.

I understand that when you are expecting you get excited about naming your child. I was the same way. You pour over books and internet sites of names. You write them out, say them, and look at them to see how they sound.
Does it all go together?
Does it sound right?
Does it look right?
Is there a different spelling that may make the name a little unique?
Should you spell it the common way so that you can get cute things with the childs name on it?
Is there a family name that you want to include?

So as I think about all of these things, I think about our experience in naming the boys.

Teen - has his dad's name and goes by initials
Tween - has his own first name, but has two middle names: one for my dad and one for hubbys grandfather
Little S - has all unique names but my same initials SLG

As we were discussing names, we thought about what other names were in the family. What his cousins had named their kids and such.

Hubby liked the name Brianna but one of his cousins named her daughter that.

However, two of hubby's cousins gave their child the same name as his brothers child. So in other words, his grandmother has 3 grandchildren with the same name. Now if it was a family name such as John or Harold or something I would understand a little better, but it isn't. This is a fairly popular boys name these days. There was another cousin who also liked this name, but chose it as a middle name since it was already used.

Now it has happened again. One of the cousins gave his daughter the same name as hubbys brothers daughter. Again not a family name, just a popular girls name.

There are thousands of names out there. Can't you come up with something unique?

Am I wrong in thinking this? Would you name your child the same name as one of your cousins children?
