Seven Things

I am now 3 days in to the new job. All I can say is that I am bored to tears. Seriously. I have done hardly anything all week. This is a newly created position so they aren't exactly sure of what I am going to do. I could go on and on about this but I won't.

Anyhow, what I have been doing for the past 2 days is scanning all of the business cards that the boss has accumulated over the years into the CardScan system which will then be moved over into the new Account Management System that they just installed last week.

As of today I have scanned and verified about 480 cards. BORING!!!! If I never see another business card after this week, it will be too soon.

While working with the cards, I have to check the backs of them for any notes or additional information. I found this on the back of one of the cards and I had to make a copy to share with everyone.

Cute Idea

A few weeks ago I was at a baby shower for a coworkers daughter. She made the cutest little centerpiece, I just had to snap a pic to share with all of you.

The tiers are made of rolled up diapers which are around the large size baby bath and shampoo. Then she snuck in little rattles, sample sizes of baby stuff, pacifiers, cute little sandals and topped it off with a bunny. What a great idea. I may have to use it for my next baby shower.

Cracks Me Up

So this is Friday and my day off. Little S and I are sitting in the living room and the UPS driver pulls up outside.

Little S: Mum, look!
Me: What?
Little S: See that box guy truck? (aka UPS Truck)
Me: Yes.
Little S: Did you order any boxes?
Me: No
Little S: Me either.
Me: Okay (Trying not to laugh)
Little S: Maybe someone upstairs did.

He just cracks me up. I am glad he didn't order any boxes. LOL

Time for a Change

Well some of you are aware that I have been struggling with my current job. I have really enjoyed what I have learned and I love working with the kids. But I struggle with the hours. Many times I don't leave work until after 6pm and I start at 7:45am.

I have always said that I am a mother first. With Little S starting school in the fall I need to be able to go to his programs at school. Currently I am unable to take any time off to go to activities. This really bothered me.

So I turned in my letter of resignation this morning. It was one of the hardest things I have done in a while. I Really Really enjoy the staff I work with and I really enjoy what I am doing. But I have learned that sometimes in life you have to do what you have to do and not always what you want to do.

I interviewed for a position in early March and hadn't heard much back from them. They contacted me Thursday and told me that they finally made a decision and that they would like me to accept the job. At first I said yes. Then I went back and forth for a while about what to do. In the end after talking to Hubby, I decided that I had to take this position.

It comes with better hours - Mon - Fri 8-4:30. Better money and health benefits. And there is flexibility there if I need to take care of the kids.

I will finish out this week at the Dr.'s office and start next Monday at the new place. I normally would give a 2 week notice, but the doctor is going to be out of town next week and we don't have patients anyhow.

I told a few of the girls myself and the others have found out through the grapevine. I thought that some of them would be upset that I am leaving, but surprisingly most of them are very encouraging. And some are even jealous.

I want to thank all of you that have been praying for me and rooting me for the last few weeks.

Here are a few pics I have taken recently:

This is my handsome Hubby practicing Easter Sunday morning.

This is what the Easter Bunny left at our house. Yes, those are orange counters in my kitchen. Blecht...but not my choice.

These are the little chicks at the local Tractor Supply store in town. They always have spring chicks & ducklings for Easter.

Tween picked one up so Little S could pet it. That was before we saw the sign that said "No Handling". Oops...we have always been able to pick them up before. They said this year they have had a lot of problems with kids coming in and squeezing them. They lost over 70 birds this year. How sad.

In case you can't read this plate it says "BUFFOON". Who in their right mind would want that on their car?

This final pick I had to turn the car around and go back for. This is on a back road near my place. The other day when I went through I saw that they had laid some fresh blacktop along the edges of the road. Today when I went through I saw this plant growing. Right up through the middle of the blacktop. What will and determination that plant had. It reminds me that with God all things are possible. And no matter how much is put on top of me, I will always make it through with God.

Happy Easter!

I remember one night quite some time ago that I was having trouble sleeping. It was late at night and I started flipping through the channels. I came across a video channel and they were playing Christian Rock. What? On TV? Well I guess it was okay since it was the middle of the night, no one was watching anyhow right?

Michael W Smith was an up and coming singer at the time. I loved listening to him and Amy Grant at the time. This was before Christian Rock was really on the radio. One of the first songs I listened to of MWS was Friends Are Friends Forever. This was around that time that my dad passed away and neither my mum or myself could listen to it without crying.

Anyhow, this video is so appropriate for today. Please take a few minutes and listen to the song and watch the video.

Kindergarten

Yesterday I took Little S to the school to sign him up for kindergarten. He had a lot of fun, but today he can't understand why he can't get on the bus. He is really seriously upset that he did not go to school today and is sure he is going to get an "F" because he didn't show up. I have tried to explain to him that school doesn't start until after summer, but he is not quite understanding me.

Anyhow, I was looking over some of the things that the kids need to know or know how to do before they start school in the fall. Little S has accomplished a lot of them, but still struggles with a few things.

One thing being tying his shoes. This one is really my fault since I seem to buy him the velcro shoes all of the time.

Come on, he is the third child and it is just so much easier for me.

Ok - I hear you, I'll work on this skill with him so he knows how by fall.

I am, however, concerned with one of the things on the list. Remember my child is 5 as are most of the kids signing up. What do you think of this skill:

Travel alone in the neighborhood (2 blocks), to the store, school, playground, or to a friend's home.

He Is 5!!! This is 2009, not 1962! Would any of you seriously let your 5 year old out of your site for 2 blocks? By themselves?

I can not even believe this is on the list. Maybe I am too overprotective of my kids, but I would be afraid that something would happen to them, someone would take them, they would get hit by a car or Children and Youth would be at my door for letting my child wander around unsupervised at 5.

After reading that I am also concerned about those parents that do not use common sense in the first place, now thinking it is acceptable behavior to allow their child to roam the neighborhood all day. You all know the kids/parents I am talking about.

Most of you that read this are parents. What do you think about this? Am I just too overprotective? Would you let your 5 year old that far out of your site? Alone?

That is my rant for the day...lol
